360 Music Video

In this 3 minute music video you can take a 360 degree look at the moon of Sol II: Lua from the title currently in development, 1000 AE for the Vive.

How to watch

This can be viewed from PC or mobile phone, or with the proper hardware/software it can also be viewed from a VR device.

PC – simply play the video as you would a normal YouTube video. To look around, using your mouse you can click and drag anywhere on the video to rotate the current view.

Mobile Device – Make sure you have an updated YouTube app. Using a mobile device, you can look around just by aligning your phone/tablet in the direction you want to look.

I’ll be making more of these in the future, make sure to like and subscribe to help support development!

With the emergence of VR, 360 degree video and images have become a popular form of media across the web. Facebook allows users to embed these images directly simply by uploading them. But how do you post a 360 image on your website or blog? 360player.io is a great resource for developers that accomplishes just that. Simply sign up for a free account, upload your 360 image/video in the proper format ( equirectangular 2:1, also for many players metadata for the associated image may be required). On Facebook you simply upload the image as you would any other image and as long as the metadata and format are correct, it is automatically converted to 360.

If you are wondering how you can capture these 360 degree images, there are different ways to accomplish this. You can capture real 360 pictures with the Android app Google Cardboard and Cardboard Camera available in the Play store. If you are interested in capturing a 360 shot of your project, 3d model(s) or game, there is a bit more to it. (Contact me for more info).

Coaster of Carnage now on Steam Greenlight

This Halloween take a true thrill ride on a deserted roller coaster through a spooky carnival! Coaster of Carnage is a short virtual reality roller coaster ride with a Halloween horror theme. Guts and gore, clowns and cadavers, blood and bones, and a cohort of Satans rejects! What could be more fun? Not intended for the faint of heart.

If you want to help Coaster of Carnage get the Greenlight from Steam, please check it out here and give it a like, a share, or a comment!

Game of Thrones the Game

A Telltale Games adventure – let’s play walkthrough gameplay guide – Season 1 Episodes 1 through 6.

Are you a Game of Thrones fan? If you are a fan of the HBO series and you’ve seen all of the episodes, you might be craving more content by now with the premiere of the next season still months away. If that sounds like you then I definitely recommend “Game of Thrones” a Telltale Game Series. Not so much into gaming? Want to see a sneak peak before you buy? Or can’t play for other reasons? No problem, just relax and let me do all of the hard work while you sit back and watch the gameplay like it was just another episode of Game of Thrones (Telltale Games actually worked closely with HBO and George RR Martin’s personal assistant to insure that the game storyline coincides with the HBO series)! With the 6th and final episode just released the entire season is complete, and is about as much material as a season of HBO’s GoT, so any die-hard fan can appreciate Telltale’s masterpiece. Follow the Stark’s bannermen House Forrester through somewhere around HBO’s GoT season 3. Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t at least seen GoT season 3 and plan to, you might want to do that first!

$500 computer buildA decent gaming system for $500? Some will tell you it can’t be done.  You have to break the bank they’ll say, or you won’t get a decent frame rate. Some will tell you that to accomplish this you have to buy much of your parts used, or re-manufactured. After some careful research and shopping around for components I decided to take the challenge, and I have to say I’m more than happy with the final build. It outperforms my buddies older system that has a new MSI GeForce 730! This being said, I still plan on sticking a more powerful gpu in there when the time comes though. I also have plans for an SSD in the future, thus the “green” hdd. So try and look at this as a $500 foundation, rather than a $500 complete build. I bought all my parts from NewEgg and Amazon. I have Amazon Prime so anything I could get on amazon for the same price or cheaper I went for. I’ve linked to some of the parts below for your convenience.

The Build:

1 x AMD FX 4-Core Black Edition FX-4300, FD4300WMHKBOX $95

1 x MSI 970A-G43 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard $70

1 x ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner – Bulk – OEM $25

2 x

 G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model $70

1 x RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch $45

1 x Cooler Master Elite 430 – Mid Tower Computer Case with All-Black Interior and Windowed Side Panel $50

1 x EVGA 01G-P3-2615-KR GeForce GT 610 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card $50

1 x Western Digital WD Green WD10EZRX 1TB IntelliPower SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive $50

1 x Edimax EW-7128Gn 150Mbps Wireless 11n PCI adapter with Extra Long Cable of External Detachable Dipole Antenna $15

1 x Rosewill RFA-120-WL 120mm 4 White LED Case Fan $8

Total: $498

Now it should be said that out of the components above, I filed for 2 different rebates totaling $25. The rebates being a large part of my decision process. I had to RMA my first motherboard (from NewEgg.com), shipping at my expense, which basically canceled out my rebates…

I also bought:

1 x Rosewill 107 Normal Keys PS/2 Wired Standard Keyboard, Black (RK-201) $8

and

1 x Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit, System Builder OEM DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging) $95

to go with my build but we are not going to include these in our price total bare bones price.

edit: I’ve been asked why? If you are going to upgrade later, why try for the $500 challenge first? Simple answer: who wouldn’t want a bad ass gaming PC for under $500? I wanted to see if it was possible. Long answer: I wanted to build something that compares in price to the X-box 1, and the PS4 and see how it could compare in performance. I also want to develop games for the Oculus Rift that can perform flawlessly with a similar build. If Oculus ever hopes to compete with Project Morpheus it will have to be in the same price range and have plenty of games available for it.
So after months of testing, how does the “beast” stack up? I would say Fair. For optimal performance with the Oculus Rift, you should be viewing games at 75 fps. Most games are different, but using the Tuscany demo as a benchmark I was able to run 25 fps with highest quality settings. Not so great (a bit nauseating) but doable. On the bright side, I have been able to create some simple games that run at 75+ fps on this pc, but nothing fancy. Ultimately I will be installing a more powerful graphics card. The answer to the question, can it be done for $500? Yes and no. No, not if you are trying to achieve a smooth frame rate for the Oculus Rift. Yes, if you simply want to be able to play games on medium settings, or don’t mind lower framerates on your Oculus Rift from time to time (I have came across a few I just couldn’t play).
Update: I have been developing games now with Unity 5 and the Oculus 0.7sdk with this rig and everything is still working decent!

Unboxing video‘s. What can you say about them: they are only made by people who are way too excited to get their “box”, and only viewed by people who just can’t wait any longer to get their “box”. Right? (I definitely fall in both of those categories!). Well some of you might just be surprised by the “extras” you’ll be receiving with your new Oculus Rift DK2. This isn’t the first unboxing vid of the DK2, but the other one I saw was pretty long, with a lot of pointless chatter. Watch in 1080p HD:

Enjoy!
